Dance audition FAQs

Please find below a list of frequently asked questions that I receive from my dance audition clients. If you can’t find your question below then please drop me an email and I will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Q.

What should colour leotard should I wear for my audition photographs?

A.

Darker colours work a lot better as the backdrop will be white for the entire photo shoot – red, green, navy blue and black always work well. Please make sure your tights are clean with no ladders and shoes are sewn and pointe shoes are pancaked and sealed. For dance genres other than ballet please bring hot pants, unitards or unishorts. Please also bring some warm up clothes.

*Currently due to COVID-19 restrictions please come with your dance wear on under your normal clothes.

Q.

What should I do with my hair?

A.

A French Roll for ballet is always best and for the non ballet photographs either French roll or hair down, we can always try both.

Q.

How many dance poses/movements should I prepare?

A.

A minimum of 10. This will help the photo shoot to run smoother. Once I see you performing the movement a couple of times I will be able to see if it will work for you or if we need to adjust it slightly. If auditioning for schools please bring with you a list of the required positions they would like to see i.e. arabesque, tendu a la seconde etc

Q.

How long will my audition photo shoot be for?

A.

The photo shoot will last for up to 3 hours, we can go on for longer but this will be charged at £85 per additional hour.

Q.

Should I bring my practice tutu?

A.

Yes, if you have one and please bring a matching leotard to go with it

Q.

How much make up should I wear?

A.

Only basic, every day, make up is needed.
