A gorgeous Somerley House wedding in the Autumn
Rain and high winds were on the agenda for James & Claire’s Somerley House wedding but as with all wet weddings it really did not detract from the couple celebrating in style with their closest friends and family. We were also lucky enough to have a break in the rain to get all of the photographs within the stunning grounds at the venue and I know the couple were extremely pleased that we managed to do this for them.
Somerley House is a truly special venue nestled in amongst 7000 acres of grounds. The interior itself is sublime with room upon room of elegant beauty. The picture gallery is my personal favourite with oil paintings of the Somerton family decorating the walls and a beautifully ornate organ as the main focal point of the room. This was the setting for Claire & James’s wedding breakfast and they decorated it exquisitely. They opted for a mix of candelabras and floral arrangements donning the tables amongst some personal little touches for their guests to enjoy.
As I drove up the long drive to this amazing Hampshire wedding venue I could feel that this was going to be one of those weddings that I would not forget. Meeting the couple and their families prior to the wedding told me that the main emphasis of the day was to celebrate, and celebrate they did in style!! From start to finish, and even with the rain lashing down outside, there were smiles everywhere to be seen.
I do love a Father and Daughter first look as it is a very emotional moment for all involved. I could tell that this was going to be very special for the family but I didn’t know quite how much until the door opened and Claire’s Father walked in. Taken aback by the sight of his beautiful little girl stood before him he paused, before running to his beloved little girl and giving her an almighty hug with tears in his eyes. Being a documentary wedding photographer it is not always the main moment that draws my eye to tell the story of a scene and as you will see below it was Claire’s mum with a tissue pressed to her eye, witnessing this wonderful moment between father and daughter, which for me told the story perfectly. This image also recently won a prestigious award and I can easily see why.
Apart from the vicar calling James the wrong name as the couple tied the knot (which brought raucous laughter throughout the congregation) the whole day went down without a hitch. Champagne was drunk and exquisite food was eaten as the couple celebrated a cracker of a wedding with their closest family and friends. For the first dance I wanted to do something special for the couple and photographed it through the doorway with the emphasis of an outsider looking in. An idea that worked perfectly in such a wonderful setting.
Alex and her team at Somerley House are second to none and worked tirelessly on the day to make sure that the couple and their guests had the most special of wedding days. As a result of this wedding I am very proud and privileged to have been added as one of their preferred photographers and I will be working closely with the team in the future. I am really looking forward to coming back to this prestigious Hampshire wedding venue in the future but for now please enjoy the small collection of images below which tell Claire & James’s beautiful story perfectly.
Claire & James, it was a true honour to be a part of your wedding day and I will never forget what a special day you shared with your family and friends.
